Boiler Installation Costs in the UK

A new boiler is one of the larger home expenditures most UK households face. Understanding what affects the cost helps you evaluate quotes and choose the right engineer.

Boiler Replacement Costs

  • Combi boiler (standard installation, like-for-like): £1,500 to £3,000
  • System boiler replacement: £1,800 to £3,500
  • Heat-only boiler replacement: £1,800 to £3,500
  • New installation (including radiators and pipework): £4,000 to £8,000+

Costs vary by boiler brand (Worcester Bosch, Viessmann and Vaillant are generally at the higher quality end), boiler output and installation complexity.

Gas Safe Registration

Any engineer working on gas boilers must be Gas Safe registered. This is a legal requirement, not an optional credential. Check any engineer's registration at gassaferegister.co.uk before instructing work. Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card, which specifies which categories of work they are qualified to carry out.

Boiler Guarantee

Most manufacturers offer warranties of 5 to 10 years if the boiler is installed by a registered engineer and serviced annually. Worcester Bosch offers up to 12 years on some models when installed by an Accredited Installer. Annual servicing (£60 to £120) maintains the warranty and prolongs boiler life.

Grant Schemes

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) offers grants toward heat pump installation — £7,500 for an air source heat pump — as an alternative to a new gas boiler. This is intended to support decarbonisation of home heating. ECO4 (Energy Company Obligation) may fund a new boiler for eligible households on certain benefits or in lower EPC-rated homes. Check eligibility at gov.uk/energy-company-obligation.
